Sometimes things happen for a reason, and sometimes we just make our own luck. I know that the hand of fate played a role in Bicester coming to live with us, and we are so very lucky to have him.
When David Jones offered Heather Tomlins and me this outstanding dog, we jumped at the opportunity. No one can tell us for sure how old he is, but we do know he LOVES to hunt. In June 1998, he wasn’t quite over his jet-lag, and certainly not in the best physical shape when we took him on a long road trip. He soon met his first Raccoon and his first Marmot (they don’t have those species in Wales). Suffice to say that Bicester came out first, second and third in those matches. A wonderful old gentleman, Bicester has bone, angulation, movement and the harshest coat you have ever laid your hands on. His chest is still easily spannable and whatever age he might be, he still walks into the ring like a winner and comes out with the Championship ribbon more often than not. Bicester is a great dog, solid in every way, and with a pedigree that works beautifully as an outcross on much of what we have here in North America. The truth be known, buying Bicester wasn’t a gamble at all. We already had two of his daughters who were doing very well in the ring for us and showing tremendous hunt drive. Stitch Jones and Pengelli Ms. Peel were all the testimony we needed to book him a plane ride to Canada. Since bringing the old man back to Canada, we've found out so much more about his offspring throughout the world. His daughter, Lilly Jones (out of Peanut Jones), was the Finnish Conformation Champion in 1997 and 1999 and the German Reserve Champion in 1997 for Peter Heath. We are delighted to know that Jack Russell Terrier owners worldwide are enjoying his offspring and value his bloodlines as we do. Since then he has sired some lovely terriers that will carry on his name, both in the field and in the ring. We love him, and he is happy here and this will be his home for the rest of his days.
